It’s always incessantly hard to write Marvel reviews realistically., because slightly spoil any minor detail and the entire fanbase is coming for your neck. So here is my attempt of a review while revealing as little of the plot as humanely possible.
Despite not finding the first Doctor Strange anything special when I first watched it, I was really excited to see this film as soon as possible. Strange has had an evergrowing role in the Marvel cinematic universe in the most recent stories and I think he is a really cool character.
It really did not disappoint either. Not a flawless film or the best by far, but a genuinely enjoying and gripping watch, with some spoilers that were actually kept under wraps WELL for once. There is no moment like the reveal of a well kept Marvel secret, the audience reaction really is something else. It is definitely not an intro to Marvel film, and the intricacy of the cinematic universe gets mire and more complex every film made, but the gatekeeper inside of me loves it.
Some of the CGI was disappointing but it was still really well done and I can’t help but respect that absolute mad minds that can even start to fathom some of the mind boggling whacked up stuff that this film is made up of. I also really liked the sound track, and there was some really stellar acting for the most part.
A part of my heart really hurts for Wanda, and maybe its because I loved her before all the witchy stuff, but I think of all the Marvel characters, she is hardly one that deserves slander. I loved some of the zombie-esque features of her moments on screen as well.
I do think there is going to be a slight downfall of Marvel and its fanbase with the recent commodification of the franchise and the need to have Disney+ to see all the content and therefore understand the lengths of the universe. I’m not saying this is either good or bad, I’m just saying thats what I think is going to happen.
RATING – 8/10
Should I watch? If you’re into Marvel already, deffo.
