X… A24’s newest secret gem

X (2022) is a new film directed by Ti West, and when I went to see it with my boyfriend there was just 2 other people in the screening with us. But people are severely missing out!

I went to see this at the cinema not really knowing what to expect after reading a short blurb on the Vue website and hearing no advertising. When I was presented with genuinely one of the best horror films I have ever seen, I was very pleasantly surprised.

X is a visually stunning film. The cinematography and the grainy finish is perfect. The makeup and outfits and hair and everything else combined is the perfect embodiment of 70s media. If I wasn’t a Pitch Perfect megafan at 14 who can spot Brittany Snow anywhere, they may have just fooled me. I think so mnay horrors get caught up in the slasher effects and the visuals of all the scary stuff that they forgot to make it a well rounded film, but X is definitely an exception. Throughout, every shot was immense to look at.

The story was interesting and sincerely creepy. A perfect mix of ominous eeriness, slashing violence, and jump scares. Its such a versatile film and feels very real, something I feel much more drawn to compared to far fetched monster horrors.
And a little fleetwood mac tribute never goes amiss.
I really don’t know why this film isn’t getting more publicity, it’s a great watch.

Rating – 8.5/10

Should I watch? Yes, go have a date night at the cinema NOW
